Progenesis (Dr. Hongwei Yu and myself) attended the 2017 World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology last week in Montreal.  Our compliments to the organizers for putting together an informative and timely program.  Thanks especially for the partnering sessions that set a record number for this year's meeting.  Also thanks to the people of Montreal who were very gracious and welcoming hosts and rightly proud of their vibrant city.  Progenesis met wth 15 companies during this meeting and we have already had or have scheduled follow-up interactions by email, conference calls and submission of power point presentations.  We look forward to attending next year's World Congress in Philadelphia.

The Consulting Firm BBCetc Helps Progenesis Submit a Phase II SBIR Grant Application.  Once an applicant, such as Progenesis, has received a Phase I award, they are eligible to submit a Phase II grant application.  The purpose of the Phase II award is to aid in the commercialization of the innovative technology.  The amount of this award is substantial, up to $1million over a two-year period.  However, the application is more complex than the Phase I and requires up to a 12-page commercialization plan.  Therefore, Progenesis decided to engage the services of the consulting firm BBC entrepreneurial training & consulting. (BBCetc).  The company has an excellent track record in helping small business obtain SBIR funding.  Their stringent review and insightful suggestions were invaluable in the writing of this Phase II application.  The final version was submitted to the NIH prior to the September 5th 2016 deadline.  Our initial review score was promising and information about potential funding will be obtained in mid-February of 2017.

TechConnect WV’s ScaleUp program awards Progenesis $2,448.  In order to encourage small businesses in WV to submit more competitive SBIR grant applications, TechConnect WV initiated a Scale-Up program that pays for up to 75% of the cost for consultants to help in the writing and review of SBIR grants before they are submitted to the designated Federal Agency.  Progenesis applied for this award and with the help of Anne Barth, Executive Director of TechConnect WV, John Golden, Program Manager TechnConnect WV and Kevin DeGregorio Executive Director of the Chemical Alliance Zone, Progenesis application was approved for funding by the TechConnect WV Board.  We are much appreciative of the help and the confidence that TechConnect has provided for Progenesis.
